Verizon Fios CR1000 Deployment Guide

The Verizon Fios CR1000 (including CR1000A and CR1000B) is a Wi-Fi 6E gateway deployed on high-speed fiber tiers. Unlike standard cable networks, Fios delivers service via an Optical Network Terminal (ONT). You have two paths for deployment: dropping the Verizon router entirely (Recommended), or disabling its internal routing logic to use it as a bridge.

  METHOD 1: DIRECT ONT BYPASS (RECOMMENDED)

  METHOD 2: LAN-TO-WAN BRIDGE
  [ Verizon ONT ] ---> [ CR1000 (Bridge Mode) ] ---> [ Your Edge Router ]

Method 1: Direct ONT Bypass (No Verizon Router)

If you do not have Fios TV set-top boxes that rely on the CR1000 for Guide data and Video on Demand, you can remove the CR1000 completely from the topology.

• Locate the Ethernet port on your Verizon ONT (often installed in a garage, closet, or exterior enclosure).
• Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the WAN port of the CR1000 router.
• Connect that exact Ethernet cable directly into the WAN port of your personal edge router.
• If your edge router fails to receive a public IP address immediately, the DHCP lease is locked to the CR1000. Unplug the power to the ONT for 5 minutes, or log into the CR1000 interface prior to disconnection and click "Release DHCP Lease" under the Advanced Broadband settings.

Method 2: Configuring Bridge Mode on the CR1000

Use this method if you must keep the CR1000 in place for Fios TV functionality or infrastructure reasons.

• Disconnect your personal edge router from the CR1000. Connect a computer directly to one of the yellow LAN ports on the back of the CR1000 using an Ethernet cable.
• Open a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1. Log in using the admin password printed on the factory sticker located on the router body.
• Navigate to Advanced > Network Settings > Network Connections.
• Select Network (Home/Office), then click Settings.
• Locate the IP Address assignment section. Change the setting from DHCP Server to Disabled.
• Uncheck the boxes for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks to shut down the internal access points. Click Apply to save changes.
• Return to the Network Connections menu, select the primary broadband connection (Ethernet WAN), and locate the bridging options to toggle the interface into bridge mode.
• Disconnect your computer. Connect the WAN port of your personal edge router into a LAN port on the CR1000.
