Xfinity XB8 Bridge Mode Configuration

Follow these steps to completely deactivate the internal router, DHCP server, and Wi-Fi 6E radios on the Xfinity XB8 gateway, turning it into a transparent bridge for your own router.

Step 1: Access the Admin Tool

Connect a computer directly to one of the LAN ports on the XB8 using an Ethernet cable. Open a web browser and navigate to the default gateway address:

URL: http://10.0.0.1

When the login prompt appears, enter the factory default administrative credentials:

Username: admin
Password: password

Note: If this is the first time logging into the gateway, the system will force you to change this default password before continuing to the dashboard.

Step 2: Enable Bridge Mode

Activating this feature bypasses the internal NAT table and passes the external public IP directly to your equipment:

Locate the setting labeled Bridge Mode. Click the toggle to switch it from Disabled to Enabled. A warning message will appear letting you know that the gateway's built-in Wi-Fi networks will be turned off. Confirm the action.

The gateway will save the settings and automatically reboot. The status light on top of the XB8 will change colors during the cycle and settle into a solid white or blinking amber pattern once it is fully in bridge mode.

Step 3: Connect Your Router

Unplug your setup computer from the device. Connect the WAN internet port of your personal router or firewall directly into **LAN Port 4** (this is the bottom-right port highlighted by a vertical red line, indicating the 2.5GbE multi-gig port). Reboot your personal router to force it to pull the public IP address from the Comcast network.
